Time Waits For No One!

Oh, gosh! Time seems to be going by SO quickly lately, and there's never enough time to do everything I wanted to.  Bet I'm not the only one who feels that way.
Anyhow, it's almost the end of March and I realized I never came back to the blog  to post the rest of my 29 faces for February.  So, here's a little collage of them all together.
I really enjoyed the challenge, doing some experimenting, and especially seeing all the fantastic faces created by the other participating artists.  LOTS of talented people out there!  Keep smiling, one of them might decide to draw a portrait of YOU!  :)

6, 7, 8 (plus) and 9 of 29 faces - and snow!

Hello, and Happy Sunday night!  I have been drawing all week, but got behind on my pictures and postings.  Maybe I was distracted by the beautiful snow.  Almost a foot of snow arrived in the valley this weekend.  Guess the groundhog was right about winter sticking around a little longer.  Anyway, let's catch up now.

For face number 6, we have a Valentine Princess.  This one is colored pencils on drawing/sketch paper and is approx 8x10 inches.  With her big bright eyes and HEARTy outfit, she's sweet enough to give you cavities.  ;)

Face number 7 is a mixed media piece.  Soluble crayons, acrylic, ballpoint and graphite pencil on a manilla file folder.  I've added some fun duct tape on the folding edge and "grabby" area on the side. I'll go back and finish decorating or maybe just taping the rest of the folder to make it really sturdy, add a spray sealer over the painting, and have a fun little functional item to add color to my desk.

Yesterday morning, I decided to have a little spontaneous playtime with the water soluble markers.  (They happen to be Tombow.)  I created four ATCs (playing card size art) using the markers, a brush with clear water, and a tiny bit of black liner pen.  Love the results that come from never being exactly sure how the ink will react. The happy pop of color from the markers always makes me happy. I'm going to call this grouping my 8th(plus) entry for the 29 faces challenge since they are small, quick pieces completed at the same time.

Rounding out the group and bringing us up to date, a little pencil sketch I call "Weekend's Over."

5th of 29 faces

Finally starting to feel like I'm on the mend from this fight with bronchitis. Yay!  I'm ready for that to be in the past.  Now it's time to catch up on my posts.

Here is face drawing number 5 for the 29 faces challenge.  Another digital painting on the iPad, using the procreate app, but in a different style with limited palette. It was a fun experiment.  I'm still learning to use the digital painting app.  No where near to fully utilizing it's capabilities.  I am in awe of artists who use it to create either realistic or wildly detailed fantasy images.

29 faces, cuddly blankets and an iPad

Spent my evening snuggled under my favorite blanket fighting off illness.  I have the pencil draft of a drawing completed, but didn't feel like I had a steady enough hand for the ink work, so set it aside.  Instead I used my trusty iPad and did a little digital drawing to share today. Here's my offering for day 4 of the 29 faces challenge. I hope you enjoy!

3 of 29 faces

Here we go, Day 3 of 29 faces.  I really enjoyed this one!  A little more whimsy, and it's fitting that she is all bundled up, because we had a little snowfall today.  Yay!  (We have had VERY LITTLE snow here so far this winter.)

This little cutie is 5x7 inches on mixed media paper, watercolor pencil with ink outlines, and just a smidge of white gel pen and colored pencil.  Hope she makes you smile!

2 of 29 faces

Here is face 2 in the 29 faces in February challenge.  Colored pencil on bristol paper.  It was relaxing to work quietly with the pencils this evening, but am thinking I should be doing these when I am more alert ... she's lovely, but far from symmetrical.  (Thinking I prefer the slightly rounder side.)   So, maybe tomorrow I will draw after morning coffee!

New Blog and the First of 29 Faces in February

Hello, and Happy February!

I used to keep a blog, but wasn't very consistent with it and it withered up like a daisy in the desert.  Poor little bloggy.  Still, hope springs eternal and I have decided to give it another go!

I'm also doing the 29 faces challenge!  My hope is that creating and posting art to share daily this month will get me into the blogging habit.  So, here is my first entry for the challenge.

The pose was loosely based on a photo of my daughter, but I did not take time to try to capture an actual likeness.  I worked with ballpoint pen to get the basic lines and a bit of shading, then did a quick color treatment with watercolor pencils.

Technically, I can see several problems, the one that really grabs my attention is the proportion and angle of the eyelids.  But overall, I'm pleased with the outcome on this quick portrait.
